Final product 'REEM' - TOWIE parody

Audience Feedback

We asked the two people who gave us the feedback on our roughcut, to give us feedback on our final improved trailer and this is what they said;

  • 'The final trailer was much better than the roughcut, i thought it looked more proffessional and the music fitted a lot better than before' - Luke Wainhouse
  • 'With the title card placed at the end it makes the whole trailer seem more realistic and gives the programme brand identity' - Jack Kane

My Final Magazine Ancillary

This is my final magazine ancillary that I developed from my first draft.

Audience Profile

This is an audience mood board we developed after researching the social groups and the interests of the people who watch shows similar to ours such as TOWIE and Made in Chelsea

Planning for front cover

Location Shots

Planning For Ancillaries

Planning characters and locations

We established the characters by looking at the existing characters in TOWIE and built our seperate characters around them, For example we knew that Joey Essex was renound for his short shorts so our character 'Fred Perry' wore short shorts and the girls were made to wear tacky clothing to make them look as fake as possible to represent the glamour etc..

Magazine ancillary draft 3

Audience Feedback

Constructive Criticism
  • I think the subtitles 'BAMFORD' and 'GEORGE STREET' would look better in red now the masthead is in yellow.
  • Maybe shift the bar code to the right hand side of the magazine

Magazine ancillary draft 2

Audience feedback

Constructive Criticism

  • The 'EXCLUSIVE' tab needs to be more clear, maybe but a translucent box behind it.
  • The name 'SCREEN' suggests there is more than just a soap inside.
  • How would the masthead look in bright yellow?

TV & SATELLITE magazine was my main inspiration when designing my own magazine as you can see i followed some of the regular conventions such as the colour coding and the traditional strap on the top of the magazine this links in with Q1 about how I used and developed convetions, I challenged some of the conventions by using a three shot as the main image which isnt a ragular occurance for TV magazines like this one.

    Magazine ancillary draft 1

    Audience Feedback

    Constructive Criticism
    • Remove image of sunglasses from Google and maybe change the top masthead if you're not able to get a photo of the sunglasses yourself.
    • Change the name of the magazine, needs to be something more original
    • The background works but challenges the standard conventions.
    • Change up the fonts/colours/sizes cos they are all to similar
    • Add barcode and price

    TOWIE Parody roughcut.

    Audience Feedback

    Constructive Criticism
    • The sound needs turning up at the part where we are in the car.
    • Non diegetic song needs turning down so the speech of characters can be mroe clearly heard
    • 'I think the trailer was really funny and entertaining and the song suited the trailer, but it could have been edited better to fit the cuts so it didn't give the right connotations' - Luke Wainhouse
We took this feedback on the non diegetic song and edited it in 'GarageBand' on the Apple Macs, to fit with the cuts in the trailer. And ducked the sound so that you were able to hear the dialougue of the characters.

    • 'It doesn't have any title cards so i didn't know what channel its on or the branding of the programme' - Jack Kane
So i had to go into 'Key Note' on the Macs to produce an E4 styled title card, using the E4 styleguide on teh internet to help me do it.

      Towie trailer, inspiration for ideas

We took some ideas out of this trailer to use for our own trailer. Becuase we are doing a parody we had to take these clips, and take them one step further. We took the conventions that the audiences know, and played on them. For example, we knew that the characters take great care in their appearance and like to fake tan. So we took this idea and over exagerated it with the fake tan and overuse of the word 'reem' that is an iconic word used by many TOWIE fans.
      >using similar shot types and sharp edits to make it realistic.
      >using up beat sound track to go with the style of the trailer.

      Hollyoaks ancillery task

I made this ancillary of Hollyoaks by printscreening a bit from an episode, and adding the texts and logos you can see on photoshop. I will be producing a billboard similar for my own trailer.

      Dallas 2012 Trailer analysis

Trailer uses a non-diegetic sound track - Edits with the beat.
Lots of short clips used, almost like a montage.
Not much dialogue needed to explain the main story line.
      Slightly modified iconic soundtrack, recognisable.
Several family fude story lines been edited together.
2 generations arguing over the same thing, older characters offer continuity to older viewers and new younger characters attract in younger, fresh audiences.
Starts with the helicopter shot from the title sequence of the original
faded cuts give it a glamours feel
CU of JR's watch and hands, to show hes aged since the last one, then cuts to close ups of the preexisting characters
shot reverse shot showing the two sons of the original characters- audience presume its there sons as they are arguing over the same thing.
symmetrical shot of the two sons
"my whole life I've been trying to put the Ewinging name back on top" - gives audience an idea of what has been happening since the last series of the show
Slow zoom into the original house to show that it hasnt changed since they left.
"Bobby was always a fool" old rivalry's from the old show are still existant
"I'm sick to death of this family devouring itself over money"
these title cards tell the story to the veiwers

A2 preliminary task, Nangreave Road trailer.

This is my preliminary task of my soap trailer, this is done to practise my skills of using a camera and getting the idea of what our real trailer is going to be like to film and edit.
